About the event
Tar River Community Development Corporation started the community chess club in order to provide our residents of all ages with an opportunity to learn and to engage with each other.
Chess is a game of mastering the mind and it enhances important skills such as; problem solving, critical thinking, patience, and most importantly - calmness under pressure.
In our community we are often plagued with sitautions that cause of to react without thinking of the future consequences or the domino effect that one decision could have. Chess is a game that can teach one how to manuever and think clearly and strategic during stressful or high pressure times.
We will meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month and we will have Quarterly Tournaments in order to crown a local Champion! We will provide the chess games and timer, but if you want to bring your game that is welcome as well!
