Tar River Chess Club

Tar River Community Development Corporation started the Tar River chess club in order to provide our residents of ages 13+ with an opportunity to learn and to engage with each other. Chess is a game of mastering the mind and it enhances important skills such as; problem solving, critical thinking, patience, and most importantly - calmness under pressure.

 We will meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at the Rocky Mount Housing Authority Community Center in Edgecombe County. 

We will provide instructions on how to play if you have never played before and we will also have a beginner's, intermediate, and expert section so that everyone can compete against their own level. 

 We will have also host Quarterly Tournaments in order to crown a local men's and women's Champion and they will compete to crown an overall Champion! We wil provide chess games and timers, but if you want to bring your own game that is welcome as well! 

We believe the chess club will create an atmospehere not only to learn but of safe and friendly competition.
